President's Message
The countdown to Austin is on!

Final preparations are in full swing for the 2020 NVLA Annual Conference, March 25 – 27, which is now only days away. NVLA staff Mike Mathy and Marcie Liebert, along with Ken Sopp, our conference chair, and his energetic committee are attending to the last-minute details. This year we have the added nuance of COVID-19 to be vigilant of, and we are monitoring it very carefully.

We have an outstanding roster of speakers and strong support from many vendors and sponsors. Austin promises to roll out the red carpet (plus a few hundred sidewalk scooters) for NVLA!

An ounce of experience is worth a ton of theory. I am looking forward to being able to tap into all of the experience and talent at each session. It has been at industry conferences that I have frequently encountered a game-changing epiphany or idea, and I expect no less this year.

In addition to attending the dynamic sessions:

  • Learn about the reboot of our CVLE Education Program, which will include a salesperson onboarding and training module.
  • Preview our upcoming initiative, Women in Leasing, that we want to build to be a fundamental aspect of the organization.
  • Find out who has earned the 2020 Clemens-Pender Award when we honor someone who has made a lifetime commitment to the vehicle leasing industry.

The rate of change in our industry is only intensifying. To succeed, we need to move from passively playing checkers to mastering the chessboard. NVLA 2020 is a conference for those who want to discover their Wins of Change!

See you in Austin.

March Spotlight: Jeff Perkins, VP of Operations, Motorlease
NVLA: Tell us about yourself and Motorlease.

JP: Motorlease is a third-generation, family-owned nationwide fleet management company headquartered in Farmington, Connecticut.  While we customize all of our lease products to best fit our clients’ needs, we find that most choose our closed-end lease program.  In addition to the vehicle lease, we offer a variety of full and managed services, including maintenance, registration, insurance, and transportation, among others.

I joined the company in 2002 and instantly found myself in love with the industry as well as all of the great people involved.  I’ve held a number of positions in just about every department within the company.  In my current role as vice president of operations, in addition to overseeing our purchasing, remarketing, and ancillary services, my focus is on strategic planning, analysis, and developing tools for our future growth.

NVLA: What does Motorlease do better than any other organization?

JP: In an industry that has seen a lot of consolidation over the past decade, we have found that many smaller fleets feel they have been left behind.  At Motorlease, we believe that we’re the ideal partner for those who feel like they’re a small fish in a big pond.  Because we focus exclusively on companies where fleet is essential, but a full-time manager is not practical, we’re able to provide world-class service to each and every one of our clients.

NVLA: What does the future look like for Motorlease?

JP: The future looks very bright for Motorlease.  Over the past few years, we have expanded many of our teams in order to keep up with the demand.  We’re also expanding our reach into areas of the country that we have not had much exposure to in the past.  Couple that with our continuing development of new offerings designed to meet our clients’ needs, we feel that we are positioned very well to meet the challenges of the industry moving forward.

NVLA: How has Motorlease benefited from being involved with NVLA?

JP: Motorlease has been a longtime member of NVLA.  Our NVLA membership has provided us with opportunities to meet and build lasting relationships with members of all facets of the industry, including lending institutions, manufacturer representatives, vendors, and industry peers.

NVLA: What would you like to tell the NVLA readership about Motorlease?

JP: Where many fleet management companies are focused on designing tools that allow their clients to manage their own fleet on a day-to-day basis, it is Motorlease’s position that it is our job to handle those tasks. Instead of pushing more and more responsibilities onto clients, Motorlease prides itself on removing all of those burdens and placing them on our shoulders, allowing our clients to spend less time focusing on their fleet, and more time focusing on their core business.

NVLA: What are you looking forward to the most at the 2020 NVLA Annual Conference?

JP: This will be the second NVLA Annual Conference that I have had the opportunity to attend.  I am especially looking forward to participating in the valuable networking opportunities, as well as attending the sessions full of important industry topics and trends such as compliance, safety and technology.
